Left overs? Are you refering to the propane tanks that were picked up the next morning? Garbage, well, Rotary had its own garbage system, where they paid for and hauled it away. Grass grows back!! The real question is this, How are 30,000 plus residents wrong and you are right? Yes Mr. Keeler there were people from outside of the County attending this event. By far, it was the residents of Northumberland County, and Cobourg who attended this event. I know, I was there. Bob Spooner, who even admitted he has never attended, can not atest to this. Did you attend Mr. Keeler? probably not.

To hold this event on the pier will not work, the stage alone, to point south, would block the egress of the patrons, oh and what happens when someone falls off the side. Parents are going to be less likely to allow their children to run around on the pier then in a fenced in area on the grass. Your choice of new venues has its own issues. Dangerous ones at that, but hey, it will give you something to gripe about next year. By the way, what extra parking are you talking about? your talking about a one block west difference? Where is the extra parking that is not already in use?

The propane tanks were picked up on Tuesday morning, two days after Ribfest closed. I was in that park twice a day to photograph the aftermath.

This Thursday I will be providing the Parks Board with beer bottle caps, popcan tags, plastic ties that were found on the grounds, as well as cinders. These have the potential to lacerate the feet of children.

I attended Ribfest. I had my backpack looked into. Ribfest is a lot of sloppyfest fun. I sure hope it grows. But not in Victoria Park.

Your knee-jerk response to the east pier is easily addressed with competent layout and management, including adequate egress.

Parking along a portion of the east pier. Parking at McGill/Queen. Parking south of Esplanade. Parking in lot east of Second Street. Parking in the lot around the Yacht Club. The east pier is closer to all that, than is Victoria Park.

Rotary Club has done a wonderful job over recent years rehabilitating the harbourfront from industrial to community use. By putting their footprint on an underused part of the harbour, they bring attention to it and earn the largesse to extend their rehabilitation of the harbour.

Also the cooking rigs would be on a hard surface, where their grease and cooking oil spills can be easily cleaned up afterwards. As it is now, these rigs pollute the lawn of "the crown jewel of Cobourg" as it has been referred to by Rotarian and Mayor, Peter Delanty.

Take a look at the photos in this blog and you will see clearly the damage to the grounds that you dismiss with cavalier arrogance.

Victoria Park is not any other park. It is the crown jewel and should be treated accordingly. One of the main demands made of the outside visitors is that they leave the the park in the same condition as they found it.

Unfortunately, that was not the case with Northumberland Ribfest, this year nor the previous.

Wally, you're such a pain.

Good thing you came back to Cobourg, we need you to stick some pins in the pompous around here.

It was a bit of old home-coming week in front of town council. When I had finished my 10 minute presentation, Counc Mutton asked me if I could provide a copy of my presentation. I explained that I had no crib notes or other written material, "because I did it extemporaneously and serendipitously, because, well, because I'm that good." There was a chuckle at the audacity of my pomposity, but then Counc MacDonald spoke up to say how he knew me from high school days and added that anyone who knew Wally Keeler also knew he was 'that good'. Which made for more laughter, and knocked the socks off the two media reps.

I just came from my meeting with the Park Board. They passed a motion to accept my presentation for information so that it becomes part of the permanent record.

Secondly, they passed a motion recommending that the Town Council pass a motion requiring a committee who administers the park permits for events to consult with the Parks Board.

Believe it or not, the Parks Board has no say whatsoever concerning what can go on in the park. They are asking to be part of the pre-approval process. I did not know this before. Now I have to contact that Committee and appear before them.

Deb, I'm gonna pursue this to see what can be done.

At the Parks Board, Counc. Spooner said at the Committee of the Whole meeting he enthusiastically supported the East Pier idea, but that afterwards, he was told it was not a good idea. He didn't say who and I didn't ask. It's just the normal give and take of politics.

Nevertheless, I have no power of office, or of money or of social status -- just an individual with a pocket full of rights, rites and writes.

I hope Ribfest in Vic Park becomes an election issue. I'll try at the all-candidates meetings.

Take a look at the Pier, there are not the required items to hold it on the pier, ie water and electricity. Both of which are needed. The winds alone on the pier would negate the ribbers from putting up their banners. Not to mention the cold wind off the lake, as they had this year. The midway brings its own generators, water is its own problem. Power for the band shell would be extremely difficult. The width of the pier is extremely restrictive.
Not to mention, at least now on the weekends where it is hot down on the lake, there is NO SHADE what so ever. Last year being a prime example of it being way to hot. Again, you have not responded to my question, I will ask you once again, What about the 30,000 people who attended this event, many of whom are residents of Cobourg. Who pay taxes just like you and I. Why are you ignoring the fact that so many residents of our fair town attended, this event, and seem to have no problem with the issues that you bring up. In fact many like myself, are repeat customers, 4 years in a row. Why are you ignoring this simple fact?? Or does it not fit your agenda to make the park fit what you remember. Seems to me the latter.
Whats next, no movies in the park, no children playing on the grass, no this no that, hmmm are you not part of ending the Town of NO.
I took a look down at Victoria Park, i went to the area where all the picnic tables are chained together and locked to the ground. The ground is all torn up around them from the heavy traffic, SOMETHING NOT RELATED TO RIBFEST. Not a peep out of you on this topic. wow. Double standard or what. One other little thing, you mentioned migrants. In a way I found to be distasteful. The conatation to me smacked of the R word. Perhaps you did not mean it that way, perhaps it was intentional. Your the one that needs to explain that one not me.
Propane tanks, and the pickup of, the event ended I believe at 7 pm on Sunday evening, To have them picked up Tuesday morning is not unreasonable. At worst that is one full day after that event ended. Not the two you state. I await your response. It should be interesting.
